UNESCO Clubs in Germany

Currently there are the following UNESCO Clubs in Germany:

  • Aachen
  • Berlin
  • Bonn Region
  • Joachimsthal
  • Kettwig
  • Kulmbach-Plassenburg.

 

Most of the UNESCO Clubs were founded during the years 1981 to 2004. Only one, the “Berlin Committee for UNESCO”, dates back to the year 1950.

 

In Germany, no UNESCO Associations are registered.

 

UNESCO Clubs in Germany are non-profit organisations, registered under German law. Their budgets are generated from membership fees, from subsidies provided for specific activities, from fund raising, and from private donations.

 

Activities

UNESCO Clubs in Germany perform a wide range of activities, among them: peace building, human rights, world heritage, sustainable rural and urban development, Agenda 2030, international partnership and exchange.

 

Modalities include presentations, discussions, exhibitions, seminars, study visits, publications, and meetings with international partners.

The Federation

The Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO in Germany (the “Forum”) meets twice per year.  Meetings are focused around a thematic issue from the scope of UNESCO’s mandate and activities.

 

Neither UNESCO Clubs in Germany nor their Federation (the “Forum”) do maintain paid staff or office space.

 

Coordination of UNESCO Clubs in Germany is managed, on a rotational basis, by one of the Clubs.

 

Quality Principles

In June 2017, the German Commission for UNESCO and the Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO in Germany have agreed on "Quality Principles of UNESCO Clubs in Germany" (PDF, 2 MB).

 

Links with Associated Schools

UNESCO Clubs in Germany maintain close relations with UNESCO Associated Schools.

 

Links with the German Commission for UNESCO

The the Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO in Germany (the “Forum”) cooperates closely with the German Commission for UNESCO. Every other meeting of the “Forum” is held on their premises in Bonn. The German Commission for UNESCO also facilitates logistical and financial arrangements for membership of the Federation (the “Forum”) in the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA).

 

The the Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO in Germany participates in annual meetings of the German Commission for UNESCO.

 

Links with WFUCA

The the Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO in Germany has been a Member of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Centres and Associations (WFUCA) since 1990.
